Getting started with Lawdex

Create your workspace, open your first matter with its next court date, and invite colleagues if you have them, in about ten minutes.

Setting up on Lawdex is deliberately quick. When you register you say how you practise (on your own, in chambers or as a firm), and Lawdex creates your workspace with you as its administrator. The first thing you see is the Overview: a live picture of the whole practice with pending tasks, active matters and what is coming up on the diary. Nothing to configure before it is useful.

Invite colleagues (Chambers and Firm)

In a chambers or firm, open the team directory in Settings and send an invite link. You choose the role for each person as you invite them, and the role decides what they can see and do. An Associate sees the matters they are working and the tasks assigned to them; a Partner sees everything. You can change a role later, and you can revoke access the moment someone leaves, which matters for privileged client data.

Chambers includes 4 seats and a secretary seat, and Firm includes 8 seats with more at a fixed price each, so invite everyone who touches a matter. On Solo you work alone, and you can move to Chambers or Firm from Billing when you take someone on.

Open your first matter

Go to the Registry and add a matter with the parties, the court, and the next hearing date. This becomes the home for everything about that case: its hearing history, its documents, and the tasks tied to it. If you are moving an existing caseload in, start with the matters that have the nearest court dates so the diary is immediately useful.

Create a task and assign it

Create a task, assign it to yourself or a colleague, and give it a deadline. That is the core loop of Lawdex: matters hold the work, and tasks move it forward. When the assignee finishes, they attach the work to the task before marking it complete, so the reviewer opens everything in one place.

Once your team is in, a few matters are on the diary, and the first tasks are flowing, Lawdex stops being software you set up and starts being the place the practice runs. That is the whole idea.
